Time really does fly. We are surprised it has been already a year and you need to prepare to leave this country. while we still remember how overwhelmed it was when you come, the way back is also quite a process. So we would like to guide you step by step to successfully complete this process like we did when you come.
Actually, there were previously written Guide at KorVia web site
https://www.korvia.com/completing-your-contract-in-korea-korvia-guide/
today I would like to specialize in the checklist!
your severance pay is usually the same amount of your monthly salary. however if you may work at a school longer than a year, this is the way how to calculate your Severance pay
Monthly Salary * a year of the employment period
Severance allowance can be paid after your leave as well, so you need to provide them with your foreign bank account.
2. Payout and close your Utility accounts (electricity, Telephone, gas, internet, etc)
you need to make sure you pay all of your bills before you leave. usually, the building manager can estimate the amount of money which will be paid at the end of your contract. you need to make sure you complete the contract with your phone and internet.
3. Provide your Foreign Bank Account to your school
For the foreign money transfer, the detailed information is requested as below,
Name of Bank / Name of Branch / Address of Branch / Contact Info of Branch / Account number / Name of account holder / SWIFT CODE
4. Request a “proof of employment verification” and a “letter of recommendation” from your school
Even though you may not possibly consider come back to Korea at this time, but still it is important for you to request your school to provide such letters which verifies your employment in Korea. this still may be required for your future Job at any place in the future.
5. Obtain your Deposit back from your employer or apartment owner (if applicable)
If your employer took a deposit from your first few months of the salary, then make sure you are having them back at the end of your contract or apply them to transfer to your bank account. if you have contributed Key money for your apartment as a deposit, it has to be organized before you leave as well.
6. Purchase your flight ticket home or abroad (it depends on each of your contracts)
Purchase your flight ticket home. If you are a public school teacher, you will be getting an exit allowance no matter where you are going and how much it cost. Make sure you are providing them with your e-ticket and boarding pass as well as a foreign bank account.
A flight ticket will be required for you to apply for National Pension refund as well, so make sure you are purchasing it before you visit pension office.
7. Apply for your pension refund in your town’s pension office (if applicable)
our NPS site offers a good English service http://www.nps.or.kr/jsppage/english/scheme/scheme_04.jsp
and there are some phone numbers you can have an English service as well. your employer needs to visit local pension office along with these documents and can make you get a refund at the Airport. these are the process.
Payment at the airport is available only when the beneficiary leaves on a flight from 10:30 to 22:30, Mon to Fri.
